Legacy Challenge

Henry W. Bloch School of Management Legacy Challenge

Planned giving is a meaningful way to shape the future—ensuring that tomorrow’s leaders have access to the same transformative education that changed lives before them. By including the Henry W. Bloch School of Management in your estate plans, you can invest in student scholarships, faculty excellence, and innovative programs that will thrive for generations to come.

Thanks to the generosity of the Marion and Henry Bloch Family Foundation, your future gift can make an immediate difference. Donors who document an estate commitment of $100,000 or more to the Bloch School will unlock an immediate cash gift of $30,000 or more—made in their honor—to support the area of their choosing within the School.

Depending on your preference, this funding may be used to:

  • Establish a new donor-named endowment,
  • Bolster an existing donor-named endowment, or
  • Create an immediate-use, non-endowed fund aligned with the donor’s specified area of support.

To qualify for the incentive program, the chosen area of support must align with one of the Bloch School’s strategic priorities.

Strategic priorities include, but are not limited to:

  • Expanding scholarship support through the creation of new awards or the enhancement of existing ones,
  • Providing programmatic funding to launch or strengthen initiatives that benefit students, faculty, and the Kansas City business community, and
  • Increasing faculty support to attract, retain, and empower top-tier faculty engaged in leading research and academic excellence.

To receive the incentive funds from the Bloch Family Foundation, you must complete the UMKC Foundation’s Estate Gift Intention Form, including the section that notes the estimated value of their gift. You must also provide a photocopy of the page from their will or trust that designates support for the Bloch School.

Once documentation is received, the Bloch Family Foundation will issue a cash gift to the UMKC Foundation to establish or enhance an endowed fund—or provide immediate-use funds—on your behalf.

Established in 2011, the Marion and Henry Bloch Family Foundation is focused on serving the Kansas City metropolitan area. Striving to emulate Marion and Henry’s vision and values to enhance the quality of life in their hometown, the Foundation supports efforts in the areas of post-secondary business and entrepreneurship education, healthcare, social services, education for underserved youth, visual and performing arts, and the Jewish community.

In addition, special emphasis is placed on three organizations to which the founders have made lifelong commitments of support. The Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City are among the metropolitan area’s most important treasures. The Foundation supports these institutions as they continually strive toward excellence, fulfill vital roles in the community, improve lives, and help transform the city.

Marion and Henry achieved both success and significance. Their remarkable determination and extraordinary humanitarianism will forever inspire and propel the Foundation to strengthen the greater Kansas City community through sound, strategic philanthropy.
